Nocturnal Tags: The Pulse of Nighttime Art
Night photography creates a unique set of challenges and rewards. These photos were taken during a new attempt. I explored through Ann Arbor and found the graffiti alley and I realized I’ve kind of overlooked it during the night. It was something different, this time or maybe I was excited, testing out a different camera lens. In the dark, these walls felt alive in a way. Layers of tags and murals that told stories of this city’s history of the unseen artist.
The atmosphere is a bit gritty but not threatening. It felt like a forgotten movie set. When I looked at this scene I couldn’t help but think of Blade Runner. Not so much a full neon soaked futuresque metropolis. It’s lacking the electric signage and glowing holograms although it has that same sense of urban decay.
Night photography and those walks with music in my left ear made me realize how much I like to capture places like this.
